Itacaré

From Ilhéus we took a bus to Itacaré. It's a small surfer town right on the beach on the so called cocoa coast. They mainly live from tourism, fishing and agriculture (especially cocoa). It's also in the state of Bahia a fair bit north of Rio de Janeiro so the weather is even hotter and more humid and the fruits are even more exotic.

Look at the big drum set in the church!

This really yummy dish was dried meat with plantain, brown beans mixed with farofa (manioc flour), rice and salad. The plantains were a bit sweet and gave it an exotic but really good taste.

After Max took a surfing lesson we watched the professionals surf into the sunset.

One night we ate in an Arabic restaurant and found out that a lot of young people from Israel come to travel here in Brazil after their obligatory years in the military (obligatory for boths boys and girls). Many shops here had even signs in Hebrew.

On two of the three nights we stayed here we had the luck to see a real authentic Capoeira. Capoeira is a Brazilian art which combines dance, acrobatics and music. It was invented by the black slaves in Brazil as a fighting skill to defend themselves. Watching it is pretty amazing as it is really fast and needs a lot of body tension.

On the last day in Itacaré we did a rafting tour on the close by river. The 3,5 km down the river were a lot of fun!!!
